Auntie Taibele Zine
Auntie Taibele Zine
I made this zine from an oral history I read in the Yiddish Library. Auntie Taibele sounds like a grouchy shtetl goth butch and I love that representation for me. I hope you’ll check this zine out, whether you’re Jewish or not. If you encounter any words you don’t know, look them up on google.
The red line that wafts through the piece is there to remind you of a piece of red string. The red string protects us and connects us to our ancestors. As a contemporary practitioner of Jewish culture, one has tied a red string around one’s child’s wrist before sending them to school in America.
I’m happy to be connected to Auntie Taibele, and I admire the way she always seemed to have a bad attitude. I would get in trouble if I were that grumpy but not her. A monarch.
